ANR Bridging dynamic and thermOdynamical REsponse of coldspells of Anthropogenic forcing using Statistical mechanics (BOREAS; coord. D. Faranda): BOREAS assesses how climate change modify the frequency and intensity of snowstorms affecting European large populated areas in winter time. Anthropogenic emissions are responsible for temperature increase.

CLIMARISQ (coord. D. Faranda): Climarisq is a video game for smartphone that plays on the complexity of the climate system. Players have to deal with extreme events and take actions of mitigations and adaptation.

ITN Climate Advanced Forecasting of sub-seasonal Extremes (CAFE; coord. A. Coral): Climate extremes such as heat waves or tropical storms have huge social and economic impact. The forecasting of such extreme events at the sub-seasonal time scale (from 10 days to 3 months) is challenging. Since the atmosphere and the ocean are coupled systems of enormous complexity, in order to advance sub-seasonal predictability of extreme events, it is crucial to train a new kind of interdisciplinary top-level researchers. PY participates to CAFE by co-supervising two PhD students.

ITN european weather Extremes: DrIvers, Predictability and Impacts (EDIPI; coord. G. Messori): EDIPI is an international consortium of universities, research centres and private companies aiming to further our holistic understanding of temperature, precipitation (incl. drought) and surface wind extremes over Europe.

ERC Atmospheric flow Analogues and Climate Change (A2C2, finished in 2019): This project investigated the mathematical and physical properties of recurrences of atmospheric flow. It set standards for the attribution of extreme events (AEE), through its contribution to conditional attribution.
